Run Melbourne team gets behind Callum

7 July 2010

Mount Martha youngster Callum has inspired his family and friends to both run a marathon and launch a major fundraising campaign to support research at Murdoch Childrens.

The 16-month-old toddler was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour and has been receiving treatment at the Royal Children's Hospital.

Touched by his plight, family friend Sarah Hose decided to name her team for the upcoming Run Melbourne charity event in Callum's honour and raise money for research into childhood brain tumours at Murdoch Childrens.

What started off as a $2000 fundraising goal has quickly grown to more than $16,000 in generous donations from friends and well-wishers, taking "Team Callum" to the top of the Run Melbourne fundraising leader board.

"Once we reached $2000, we changed our goal to $5000 and then $10,000 and now I'm secretly aiming for $20,000," Sarah said.

"I thought we'd get a bit of support but I didn't think it would be this much. It's been unbelievable. Callum's so young and it's a tragedy to see this happen to him, so I think his story has touched a lot of people."

Run Melbourne will be held on Sunday, July 18.
