Murdoch Childrens researcher Dr Angela Morgan has received a
2010 Young Tall Poppy Science Award.
Angela is one of nine young researchers recognised for
outstanding work and a passion for communicating science to the
wider community.
In the past four years, Angela has developed a research program
that aims to gain new insights into the genetic factors influencing
childhood speech and swallowing disorders.
Up to 70 per cent of children with severe brain injury have a
speech or swallowing disorder, leading to poor communication and
literacy, or impaired nutritional intake and growth.
Award winners will give their time next year to speak with
teachers, school students and the broader community across
Australia as part of the Tall Poppy Campaign run by the Australian
Institute of Policy and Science.
