At the age of 12, youngster Holly Williams set herself the
audacious goal of raising $10,000 for Murdoch Childrens Research
Institute.
Holly was inspired by her older sister Penny, who was diagnosed
by the institute, with a rare chromosomal disorder which affects
her growth and cognitive abilities.
It took Holly 17 months to achieve her fundraising goal, which she
did through holding sausage sizzles, school casual clothes day,
hosting a cook off at her local hotel and through various other
fundraising initiatives. The wider community got behind
Holly, supporting her in her fundraising efforts.
Less than a year after reaching her tally, the Torrumbarry
teenager was back on the fundraising treadmill, literally this
time, and was the youngest participant in this year's Foxtel Lap
corporate treadmill challenge, held last month.
Running in Melbourne, Holly set herself an incredible target of
$10,000. A friendly rivalry was sparked between Holly and
comedian Dave Hughes, who announced that he would match any funds
Holly raised.
Holly ran over 57 laps, and to date has raised a further $6000
including matched funds, for life saving child health research.
