Researchers at the Institute have highlighted the success of
genetic testing in schools after successfully trialling the
feasibility of haemochromatosis screening in high
schools.
The study, published online in the European Journal of Human
Genetics, offered genetic screening to year 10 and 11
students. Over 5,700 students were screened via a cheek swab
sample, with 1 in 203 students identified as being at high risk of
haemochromatosis.
