The Bruce Lefroy Centre for Genetic Health Research is a
research group within the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute,
made possible by the generosity of the Lefroy family and
friends.
On Wednesday, 28 March the Bruce Lefroy Centre showcased Murdoch
Childrens new home to friends of the Institute. Thanks
to all of guests and donors for supporting the Centre and helping
us raise an amazing $104,000.
Every year, approximately eight million children or 6% of births
worldwide are born with a serious genetic condition. Although
most individual genetic conditions are rare, collectively they are
common. These conditions have a significant impact on human
health and often cause profound distress to affected families and
their children.
The funds raised will specifically support the Bruce Lefroy
Centre's Accelerated Gene Identification Program (AGIP). This
is a program that is working to identify genes that cause genetic
disease. So far the program has identified five genes and
another ten genes are expected to be identified in the coming 12
months.
