Launch of the Gait CCRE in July 2005

Federal Treasurer Peter Costello and Dame Elisabeth Murdoch launched the $2 million Gait centre for clinical research excellence (CCRE) in July 2005. The centre employs movie and computer game technology to help improve mobility for patients with cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, osteoarthritis, stroke and sporting injuries.

The Gait CCRE brings together the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, Royal Children’s Hospital, Kingston Centre of Southern Health and departments of La Trobe, Melbourne and Monash universities.

Five-year-old cerebray palsy patient Olivia Evans and 70 year old Parkinson's patient Donald Petterson were present to help demonstrate to the guests and media how the technology works.
