November, 2005

Delta Goodrem paid a special visit to the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute to help celebrate Thank You Day 2005 - a Research Australia initiative drawing attention to the work of medical researchers. The entertainer was joined by dozens of children, many of whom had directly benefited from work undertaken by MCRI researchers.

Among them was Louis Hehir from Geelong West who stole the spotlight from Delta for a brief moment as he gave the assembled media an impromptu speech about his favourite doctor. The six-year-old, who was born with kidney and bladder complications, announced that he had received a kidney transplant in April. "So I want to say thank you to Dr Coleman", the youngster declared.

Also present was Brianna Rogers, 10, who has been fighting a rare form of pelvic sarcoma for the past three years. Brianna had the time of her life meeting Delta, and was even treated to an enormous hug from her favourite star.

Delta was among several Research Australia Thank You Day award recipients, being named a celebrity advocate for helping raise the profile of Australian medical research. The singer took the opportunity to thank the doctors and researchers whose work helped save her life after she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2003.
