The Genetics File

Front cover of The Genetics File

The Genetics File is a resource on genetics for general practitioners. This resource was developed based on a needs assessment for education in genetics conducted with Victorian GPs in 2001. The resource includes chapters on the following topics:

  • Talking with families about genetics
  • Familial cancers
  • Haemochromatosis
  • Adult onset neurological conditions
  • Testing during pregnancy
  • Down syndrome
  • Thalassaemia disorders
  • Fragile X syndrome
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Newborn screening

This resource was produced in collaboration with the Royal College of General Practitioners with funding from the Victorian Department of Human Services, the Gene CRC and the University of Melbourne. We are now part of a consortium developing a national resource for GPs in Australia.

The Genetics File is available online at: http://www.mcri.edu.au/GF/pages/GeneticsFile.asp
