Stepping out

Our gait analysis research team, who were awarded $2 million and named a centre for clinical research excellence by the National Health & Medical Research Council.

The Gait analysis uses high technology equipment, specialised television cameras, force plates and computers - like those used in the movie and computer games industries - to assess how people with disabilities walk.

Whilst the technology was originally developed for children with cerebral palsy, this new collaboration has allowed researchers to adapt their knowledge to improve the lives of patients with other conditions including people with sporting injuries and the elderly patients with Parkinson's Disease or those recovering from strokes.

One year on and the collaborative venture has experienced much success, as highlighted by a report, Stepping Out.
