
Our Tall Poppy
Dr Rony Duncan, ethics researcher at the Centre for Adolescent Health was recently awarded The Australian Institute of Policy & Science's Young Tall Poppy Science Award, which recognises the achievements of outstanding young researchers in the sciences.
Rony completed a PhD in ethics research, investigating the implications of predictive genetic testing in young people. Central to her research were a series of in depth interviews with teenagers and young adults who had undergone genetic tests for Huntington Disease; a topic attracting much controversy.
Following her PhD, Rony worked at Imperial College London on the European Public Health Ethics Network before returning to Melbourne where she plans to pursue a research career in the intersection of ethics and adolescent health.
In addition to her academic success which includes publications in journals such as Nature, The British Medical Journal and the Journal of Medical Ethics, Rony has a passion for public engagement in science and has a regular position on Radio 3 Triple R as an ethics commentator.
