Remembering MillieMillie Stowe was born with no pulmonary artery and a short life expectancy. Millie underwent open heart surgery at 18 months old and again aged four. Sadly on 30 June 2007, after watching her beloved Richmond play at the Telstra Dome, Millie died at the age of eight. Heart disease is the leading killer of Australian children, accounting for more than one third of all childhood deaths. It is also the number one cause of admission of kids to intensive care. Over 2000 babies are born every year with some form of congenital heart defect. Millie’s parents, Hannah and Cameron Stowe attended a Discovery Tour of MCRI to learn more about research into heart disease and other conditions affecting children. To help support this vital research, the Stowe’s organised a fundraising trivia night in their home town of Miners Rest. “We want to raise funds for children with heart disease to have a better chance of survival,” said Hannah Stowe. “No parent should have to watch their child be in heart failure.” Learn more about our Discovery Tours here, or find out more about organising your own fundraising event for MCRI by contacting us on 03 8341 6362. |
