biography

Andrew Davidson graduated in medicine from University of Melbourne. He has trained in anaesthesia in the UK, Australia, Rotterdam in The Netherlands and Boston in the USA. He has received a Diploma of Biostatistics and Doctorate of Medicine from University of Melbourne.

Andrew is currently a Senior Staff Anaesthetist, Royal Children's Hospital and Associate Professor, Department of Paediatrics, University of Melbourne. He is also the Director of Clinical Research, Royal Children's Hospital.
He is a member of the ANZCA Clinical Trials Group and chair of the SPANZA research sub committee.

He has editorial positions for the journals Pediatric Anesthesia, Anesthesiology and Anesthesia and Analgesia. He has over 50 peer reviewed publications and two NHMRC grants. He is the principle investigator for the GAS study a multi national RCT examining neurotoxicity of anaesthesia in infants, a study funded by Australian, US, UK and Canadian government agencies.

Neurotoxicity of anaesthesia to infants.
EEG changes with anaesthesia in infants and utility and validity of commercial processed EEG devices in children during anaesthesia.
Memory formation; awareness and implicit memory in children during anaesthesia.
Behaviour change and anxiety in children during the peri-operative period.
Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of general anaesthetics in infants.
Optimal intravenous maintenance fluid for children.
