biography
Dr David Amor is a graduate of the University of Melbourne and
trained in paediatrics at the Royal Children's Hospital in
Melbourne. David completed subspecialty training in the field
of Clinical Genetics in 2000, and subsequently undertook a PhD in
chromosome biology at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute,
completed in 2004. Since that time David has worked as a
consultant clinical geneticist at the Royal Children's Hospital, in
Tasmania and at Melbourne IVF.
David has clinical and research interests in chromosome disorders,
rare genetic syndromes, genetic disorders associated with
infertility, preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and the
possible association between IVF conception and birth
defects.
research focus & interest
Our research focuses on six main areas:
- The identification of the genetic basis of rare syndromes
- Natural history studies of children and adults affected by
genetic conditions
- The study of chromosomal disorders including disorders of
imprinting
- Reproductive genetics including prenatal diagnosis and genetic
issues associated with in vitro fertilisation (IVF)
- Genetic counselling and the social and psychological impacts of
genetic testing
- Pharmacogenomics
