Working at Murdoch Children's Research Institute

Challenging and Rewarding Career

Join our team dedicated to making discoveries to prevent and treat common and rare childhood conditions which make a difference to the lives of children globally.

Our partnership with The Royal Children’s Hospital and the University of Melbourne’s Department of Paediatrics allows us to translate discoveries in laboratory, clinical and public health research into real benefits to help children live healthier, happier lives.

Learning and Career Development

We are committed to developing our people, creating an environment where they can perform effectively and contribute to our organisational strategy.   At Murdoch Children's we understand that learning and development is central to our staff reaching their full potential.

Our Learning and Development Framework consists of a combination of on-the-job, self-directed and face-to-face learning, tailored to each level within the organisation. Our framework is a tool available to all staff and students that assists with performance development activities. Some of our learning opportunities include:

  • On-the-job experiences
  • Conference attendance
  • Regular onsite seminars in the areas of laboratory, public health and clinical research
  • Research specific seminars to help improve research skills, publication writing and grant success
  • Access to our library and the latest industry publications
  • Secondment and project opportunities
  • Internal and external training programs
  • Soft skills training to enhance leadership and interpersonal skills facilitated by our training partners
  • Professional development and sabbatical leave for eligible employees

Where it all happens – Our Location

We are centrally located in the heart of the Parkville research precinct, just outside the CBD. We are easily accessible by public transport, which connects all suburbs to the hospitals by tram, bus and train. Within a one kilometre radius you will be able to find the campuses and libraries of the University of Melbourne.

Promoting Diversity

At Murdoch Children's we believe in the inherent advantages that come from a diverse and engaged workforce. We concentrate our efforts to provide a truly inclusive place to work where all staff, regardless of gender, carer status, age, disability, cultural background, religion or sexual orientation are supported in reaching their full potential.

The recognition of the complexity of diversity as a concept forms part of our agenda. Diversity is vital because there is a positive correlation between greater diversity and organisational performance, reputation and longevity and financial performance. We have clear, written policies on Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity in order to prohibit harassment and discrimination in the workplace.
