The Murdoch Children’s Research Institute’s Professor George Patton and Dr Michael Poidinger are among the most highly cited researchers of 2020.

The Highly Cited Researchers 2020 list from Clarivate identifies researchers who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field through the publication of multiple highly cited papers. Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1 per cent by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science citation index.

The methodology that determines the who’s who of influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate.

This year 6,167 researchers from more than 60 countries and regions have been recognised. In Australia 305 researchers made the list.

Professor Patton has been extensively involved in child and adolescent health research with his research group undertaking studies that include long-term longitudinal studies, trials of community-based interventions and large community surveys.

Dr Poidinger as a research data manager marshals the paediatric cohorts at MCRI for internal and external data access and analytics, overhauls research data policies and procedures and is involved in building the big data platform for the GenV project.

Institute for Scientific Information Senior Citation Analyst David Pendlebury said the list identified and celebrated exceptional individual researchers who were having a great impact on the research community as measured by the rate at which their work was being cited by others.
