Participating in the HIM study

We are inviting over 400 parents of young men born between 1994 and 2000 to participate in this study. With parental consent, we will also be inviting the adult sons to participate too. Contribution to this study occurs over several different stages.

Stage 1 – Invitation to the parents

An invitation package will be sent to the parents asking for consent to:

a) Complete a questionnaire

This can be done online (via a secure link), hard copy posted out to you, or via telephone interview with a researcher. The mother's questionnaire can take up to 30 minutes to complete and the father's approximately 10 minutes.

b) Access your medical record

This allows researchers access to your medical information, such as reasons for infertility.

c) Contact your son

Sons will not be contacted unless we have the consent of the parent.

**Even if you would prefer us not to contact your son, we still appreciate your participation in this stage of the study.

Stage 2 – Invitation to the son

With parental consent, we will contact the sons asking for consent to:

a) Complete a questionnaire

This can be done online (via a secure link), hard copy posted out to you, or via telephone interview with a researcher. The questionnaire will take up to 30 minutes to complete and will ask a range of questions about physical health, education, developmental progress etc.

b) Undertake a clinical review

This includes a physical examination, blood test, semen test and saliva sample. Each of these tests are optional.

c) Storage of saliva and/or blood and/or semen samples

**They can choose to participate in none, some or all of the above parts of the study.
