Misinformation online has spread widely in recent years, affecting people’s trust in health, environmental, industrial and financial institutions.

To combat this, we need new approaches that help people spot and counter misinformation and boost confidence. Education about social issues is an effective way of reducing the public’s vulnerability to misinformation.

Overview

Our goal is to test the effectiveness of an online activity that educates Arabic speakers about important social issues. The primary objective of the Facts and Fiction in the Internet Age study is to develop an efficient online method of educating people about important social issues.

How to participate

You will be asked to do an online educational activity about an important social issue and answer a survey before and after the activity. This survey will help us understand how the activity has affected your knowledge and views of the issue. After three weeks, you’ll do the survey one more time.

Participating will take up to one hour of your time. We hope that you will do this in one sitting, in a quiet and private place.

Participants will be given a $15 gift voucher for the first sitting (including the activity), and another $5 gift voucher after finishing the last survey (three weeks after the activity).

For more information, please read the:
