Information for participants

If your child is part of the HealthNuts study we'd like to thank you for taking the time to contribute to this valuable research.

As you may recall, HealthNuts is a ground breaking study of food allergy in children. We first met you at your local immunisation centre when your child was 12 months old. Beginning in 2007, 5,300 infants across Melbourne were tested for food allergy. Around 1,000 came to the HealthNuts clinic at The Royal Children's Hospital for further allergy testing.

Age 4 year old phase

We re-contacting families as children turned four years old and asked parents to fill out a questionnaire. Thank you to parents who returned their questionnaire - we really appreciate your help!

Age 6 year old phase

At age 6 years, we invited all HealthNuts children to have a free allergy health check. We also asking parents to fill out a short questionnaire.

Age 10 year old phase

We are following up participants again as they turn 10 years of age. This will again involve a free allergy health check for children, and parents will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire.

We'd like all HealthNuts children to take part, even if they don't have any allergies. If your child doesn't have any allergies, we'd like to find out why!

HealthNuts will be able to examine food allergy in the development of asthma, with this chronic allergic disease often arising at this age.
