A/Prof Mynard is a bioengineer and cardiovascular researcher specialising in paediatric hypertension, medical devices, cardiovascular modelling, blood pressure and flow dynamics (haemodynamics) and congenital heart disease. He holds a BSc in Medical Biophysics and BEng in Electronic Engineering (Swinburne University), an MRes in Computer Modelling (Swansea University, UK) and a PhD from the University of Melbourne. As a CJ Martin Fellow (NHMRC), he spent two years at the Biomedical Simulation Laboratory, University of Toronto, where he developed expertise in image-based computational fluid dynamics. He now leads the Cardiovascular Bioengineering team at MCRI, which is a part of the Heart Research group and Clinical Sciences theme within the Murdoch Children's Research Institute. He is a former R.D. Wright Career Development Fellow (NHMRC) and Future Leader Fellow (National Heart Foundation). He is founder and convenor of the BPOzKids (Blood Pressure in Australian Children) National Network, and is an inaugural Director Hypertension Australia. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, is a Managing Editor of Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing, on the editorial board of Heart, Lung and Circulation, and has served as reviewer for over 300 papers in >50 physiology, medical and bioengineering journals. He is an Honorary Principal Research Fellow with the Departments of Paediatrics and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Melbourne. He is an Engineering Advisor to the HealthTech Stream of the Innovation Program at MCRI. He initiated and is Project Lead for the Australian Paediatric Hypertension Guideline initiative, and chairs a multi-disciplinary working group on blood pressure monitoring in children. In 2022, he received an Ideas Grant from NHMRC to develop cuffless blood pressure monitoring technology for children.
