Associate Professor Ngaire Elwood is the Director of the BMDI Cord Blood Bank and Head of the Cord Blood Stem Cell Research Laboratory at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute. Her current research interest is aimed at extending the use of cord blood for cellular therapies, particularly through clinical grade cord blood derived iPSCs and cord blood for cardiac repair..
Ngaire serves as Chair of the AusCord network of public cord blood banks. She is Vice President of the international Board of Directors for the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapies (FACT), is a FACT inspector and serves on various FACT committees. Other board and executive appointments include Non-Executive Director on the Board of the National Stem Cell Foundation of Australia, Chair of the Australian Sickle Cell Advocacy Inc, and a member of the Board of the International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy (ISCT). Ngaire serves on the TGA Advisory Committee on Biologicals and the MCRI Institutional Biosafety Committee.
Ngaire has devoted her career to providing improved therapies for the treatment of cancer, leukaemia and other disorders, and is passionate about the therapeutic application of cellular therapies.
