Prof Crawford is a consultant paediatrician and vaccinologist, he is also recognised as an expert in vaccination of special risk groups. He is the Director of SAEFVIC (Surveillance of Adverse Events Following Vaccination In the Community) the Victorian safety service and the Melbourne Vaccine Education Centre (MVEC) where he leads a team of more than 30 staff members. Prof Crawford is Head of Immunisation Services at The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) and Chair of the Victorian Specialist Immunisation Services (VicSIS).
In 2021, Prof Crawford was appointed the Chair of the Australian Therapeutic Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), Ex-officio Member of COVID-19 Vaccines and Treatments for Australia – Science and Industry Technical Advisory Group (SITAG), Member of Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) COVID-19 vaccine Expert Advisory Group (EAG), Member of the Victorian Department of Health, COVID-19 vaccine Expert Advisory Group (EAG), member of Vaccination Special Interest Group (VACSIG)/ Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID), and the Victorian representative of TGA-JIC (Jurisdictional Immunisation Co-ordinators) vaccine safety meetings with Australian Government Department of Health. Internationally, Prof Crawford is the founding/steering committee member of the International Specialist Immunisation Services (InSIS) network in Canada, member of World Health Organisation (WHO), Geneva and most recently appointed as the WPRO (Western Pacific Region) Representative of the GNN (Global NITAG Network) steering committee in WHO Geneva.
