Dr Choon Boon (Evangelyn) Sim is a research officer of the Cardiac Regeneration Group in the Murdoch Children's Research Institute.
In 2005, Dr Sim moved to Harbin, China for her Bachelor and Master's education at the Harbin Institute of Technology. She was awarded her Master's degree in 2011, majoring in the molecular mechanism of kidney cancer progression. She then moved to Brisbane, Australia in 2012 to start her PhD with Dr Enzo Porrello, Dr Walter Thomas and Dr James Hudson, focusing the role of DNA methylation on post-natal cardiac development. Following awarded of PhD, she moved to Murdoch Children's Research Institute to continue her research with Dr Enzo Porrello.
2017 ISHR Student Investigator Finalists of 2017 65th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Cardiac Society of Australia & New Zealand.
2016 Publication prize of the School of Biomedical Sciences, The University of Queensland.
2012 The University of Queensland International Scholarship
2015 The 2nd Annual Queensland Physiology Interest Group (QPIG) Awards.
2009 Chinese Government Distinguished International Students Scholarship
2009 Outstanding thesis of Harbin Institute of Technology in year 2009.
2005 Harbin Institute of Technology Scholarship - full scholarship for 4 years bachelor degree study.
Dr Sim is interested in role of DNA methylation and chromatin dynamics and their role in controlling the development and maturation of the heart. By combining next generation sequencing and classic molecular and cellular platforms, she is seeking to understand the set of genes and signaling pathways that are essential to the proliferation and differentiation process and discover their potential use in treating heart disease.
