The Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) wants all children to have the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilled life.

Everything we know as child and adolescent health experts reinforces the value of children and young people being connected to their families, to early learning and schools, and to a community in which their families are also safe and supported.

MCRI conducts ongoing research into the health and wellbeing of recently arrived migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.

During Refugee Week in 2021, we commend and support the statements from colleagues in the Academy of Child and Adolescent Health, the Telethon Kids Institute and The Royal Children's Hospital that prolonged held detention harms children and families and is an inappropriate response to a humanitarian problem.

MCRI advocates the development of a compassionate and consistent policy framework, for children in Australian-held detention, that supports equitable access to health, education and recreational opportunities for every child.
