On Tuesday, July 4th 2023, for our inaugural engagement event, Meet the Scientists, our amazing researchers working on stem cells and therapies for kidney disease within the Melbourne Children's Campus gathered for a patient-focused event.

Led by MCRI Chief Scientist and CEO of Novo Nordisk Foundation Centre for Stem Cell Medicine (reNEW), Professor Melissa Little, researchers shared their innovative research and explained how this research is bringing us closer to cellular therapies.

Topics covered included:

  • Modelling childhood polycystic disease using stem cells.
  • Method of screening for drugs.
  • How can we develop stem cell-derived kidney therapies and what are the hurdles?
  • Evaluating the safety of new stem cell treatments.

The session provided a great opportunity for the patients and the general community to engage with the scientists, to ask valuable questions and for our researchers to learn from patient perspectives and experiences.
