Murdoch Children's Research Institute's (MCRI) Dr Daisy Shepherd has been recognised as one of Australia's superstars of science.
Dr Shepherd was one of 60 scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians announced as Science & Technology Australia's Superstars of STEM by Federal Industry and Science Minister Ed Husic.
Working as part of MCRI's Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit (CEBU) and jointly with the University of Melbourne, Dr Shepherd conducts biostatistical research, which involves the development of analytic methods for analysing and interpreting health-related data.
As the Lead Biostatistician for MCRI’s Generation Victoria (GenV) and Neurodisability and Rehabilitation Group, Dr Shepherd also oversees collaborative statistical work on observational studies with the aim of improving child and adolescent health in Australia.

“I develop and apply statistical methods to answer cause and effect questions, working alongside medical researchers to improve the health and wellbeing of future generations in Australia,” she said.
“I’m excited to be part of the Superstars program, particularly encouraging diversity in STEM and breaking the mould’ of what a mathematician or statistician should be.”
The Superstars of STEM initiative is funded by the Federal Government’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources and is designed to ensure the country has the STEM-skilled workforce it needs for the future.
