Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) is committed to educating the child and adolescent researchers of tomorrow.
MCRI employs over 1,500 graduates in a diverse range of jobs under the umbrella of research. This includes traditional laboratory-based approaches to research, technology development, science communication, public health and many more alternative paths. We offer bench-to-bedside research projects encompassing laboratory, clinical and public health research, translating results into tangible benefits for children.
As a world-leading child health research institute, students are mentored by supervisors who are expert, internationally recognised researchers in their field. Learn more about our research areas.

About the program
Year 10 work experience placements allow students to gain an insight into what it’s like to work in a medical research institute and the diversity of potential careers. Students will participate in laboratory and other research activities (subject to safety considerations) and meet like-minded students and researchers. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate with others on research projects and present their findings to their peers and other researchers.
Students who are interested in participating in the MCRI Work Experience Program should lodge an application via the form. Students must be 15 years of age on the first day of the placement commencing.
Dates for the 2025 program will be released later in 2024.
Please note: We have limited places in our program; applying does not guarantee a place.
School visits
Our researchers and students can visit schools across the state to share their experiences in medical research and discuss pathways to careers in the field. Please contact us to find out more.
