Darren Ong is a Research Assistant and Infectious Disease Epidemiologist in the Vaccine Immunology Group. He is also a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery student at The Australian National University and an Honorary Clinical Tutor at The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics. He previously coordinated the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence for Pneumococcal Disease Control in the Asia-Pacific and the Asia-Pacific Vaccine Research Network.

His research focuses on vaccine-preventable diseases in the context of global health, including pneumococcal disease, COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus and measles.
