Ms. Mariana Lauretta is an Associate Genetic Counsellor and Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist, currently working as a researcher with the Speech and Language Group at Murdoch Children's Research Institute. In particular Mariana has led the genetic counselling of families and children undergoing genetic testing for speech disorder in the speech apraxia genetics clinic at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. As part of her dedication this area of research, Mariana has led a paper (Lauretta et al. JSLHR 2023) investigating barriers and enablers to speech pathologists working in genetics and genomics. Mariana has also driven a study with other genetic counselling peers to understand parent's views and emotional responses to their children undergoing genetic testing for speech disorder (Atkinson et al. Eu J Hum Gen 2024). Mariana is also working as a clinical genetic counsellor at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Mariana has a keen interest in translational genomics, particularly related to supporting non-traditional genetics service users to incorporate genetics and genomics into everyday clinical practice.
