Dr Shivanthan Shanthikumar is a paediatric respiratory specialist and clinician-scientist fellow. Dr Shanthikumar works at the Department of Respiratory Medicine (RCH) and Respiratory Diseases (MCRI).
Shivanthan is also a Clinical Scientist Fellow generously funded by the Good Friday Appeal.
His research interests include cystic fibrosis, asthma, preschool wheeze, lung infections, bronchoscopy and respiratory complications of childhood cancer. Dr Shanthikumar has a broad range of research skills spanning laboratory science (epigenetic analysis, flow cytometry, single cell RNA sequencing, metabolomics, cyotkine analysis), clinical research and digital health interventions.
Dr Shanthikumar is also involved in leadership within the paediatric respiratory community nationally and internationally, including membership of the AREST CF Scientific Management Committee and the American Thoracic Society working group on complications of childhood cancer.
