Dr Trina Hinkley is the Associate Director, Policy and Service Development, at the Centre for Community Child Health at The Royal Children’s Hospital and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. She has a diverse and curious career background which includes, at one stage, owning a motorcycle shop, as well as experience in local and commonwealth government, universities, commercial and not-for-profit organisations.
Her content expertise is focused on early childhood health behaviour and behaviour change and also incorporates alcohol and other drugs, early childhood education and care and mental health in early childhood.
Trina has a strong research track record that includes 85+ peer-reviewed publications with 70 percent in journals in the top quartile in their field and approx. 7,000 citations, as well as senior leadership positions in a variety of for-purpose organisations. Trina has also been a key author on several sets of national Australian guidelines for children and young people and led the development of Victoria’s anti-stigma language guidelines for alcohol and other drugs.
Trina’s current role sees her leading a multidisciplinary team of more than 20 researchers, evaluators, facilitators and subject-matter experts who work with professionals, communities and governments to create change that makes a meaningful difference to children and families. Together, we deliver evaluation, training and development, thought leadership and systems change initiatives. She holds a PhD in Behavioural Epidemiology and a BA (1st Class Hons) in Sociology.
