Professor Craig Olsson
Craig Olsson is a Developmental Psychologist with expertise in lifecourse epidemiology and human genetics. He holds an Australian Research Council Principal Research Fellowship (Discovery Outstanding Researcher Award) and directs one of Australia's oldest running longitudinal studies of social-emotional development, The Australian Temperament Project Generation 3 Study. He is actively involved in a number of Australasian cohort studies and is National Convenor of the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY) Longitudinal Studies Network. He has been based at the RCH since 1994, completed his PhD through the University of Melbourne in 2000, and currently holds a joint appointment in lifecourse epidemiology with the MCRI and Deakin University. He is founding convener of the MCRI LifeCourse initiative, and has an active interest in helping researchers gain a better understanding of cohort studies run on campus, population and clinical, and how they might be accessed for advancing understanding of child health and development.

Craig leads the Australian Temperament Project Generation 3 Cohort Study (NHMRC/ARC), which has followed ~2000 parents (G1) and their offspring (G2) across 3 decades (16 waves) since 1983. Since 2011 the study has been following cohort offspring (G3) from pregnancy to preschool (5 waves). He holds additional CI roles with: (1) The Victorian Intergenerational Cohort Study (NHMRC) following ~1000 offspring born to the Victorian Adolescent Health Cohort, a 20 year (10 wave) study spanning early adolescent to young adulthood); (2) The Triple B Cohort Study (NHMRC) following ~1600 mothers across pregnancy and the health outcomes of their infant offspring, and (3) Teen Pulse (Australian Unity) capturing 'a week in the life of a teen' (e.g., caring for a sibling with disability) using Smart Phone based ESM. He has Honorary Investigator roles with: The Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health Cohort Study (New Zealand); The Western Australian Pregnancy Study (Perth), The International Youth Development Study (Melbourne, Seattle); The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre Cannabis Consortium (Sydney) and; The Norwegian HUNT Study. He is National Convener of the ARACY Longitudinal Studies Network (35 Australasian cohort studies,~70,000 participants, 4 decades) and Founding Convener of the Melbourne Children's LifeCourse Initiative (~20 Victorian longitudinal studies run through the MCRI).
