Dr. Danya Vears is a social scientist with a genetic counselling background who explores ethical issues relating to genetic testing. She commenced a position as a Senior Research Office at the Melbourne Law School and Biomedical Ethics Research Group, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in September 2018. Prior to that, she spent 3 years in Belgium as a postdoctoral research fellow of the Flanders Research Foundation with Prof Pascal Borry at the Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law, University of Leuven.
Danya is a member of the Education, Ethics and Social Issues Committee (EESIC) of the Human Genetic Society of Australasia and also three Task Teams of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH).
Danya's current research focuses on the practical, social and ethical issues relating to the use of next generation sequencing technologies in the clinical setting.
