Professor David Coghill is an Honorary Fellow Manager in the Clinical Sciences research area, part of the Neurodisability and Rehabilitation group at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute.
Professor Coghill is the Financial Markets Foundation Chair of Developmental Mental Health in the Departments of Paediatrics and Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne, and a Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Melbourne.
Trained as a child and adolescent psychiatrist, Professor Coghill specialises in ADHD, disruptive behaviours, and psychopharmacology. His research focuses on understanding the pathophysiology of ADHD, conduct disorder, and depression through neuropsychopharmacology, neuroimaging, genetics, patient-reported outcomes, quality of life, pharmacogenomics, clinical trials, pharmacovigilance, and pharmacoepidemiology.
Since February 2016, he has been the Chair of Developmental Mental Health at the University of Melbourne, following his role as Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Dundee, Scotland. Recently, he has focused on the benefits of routine outcome measurement in clinical care and optimising these practices. Throughout his career, he has maintained a strong clinical presence, developing pathways to rapidly transfer research evidence into practice.
