Francesca Orsini is a Biostatistician at the Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit (CEBU) at the Murdoch Children Research Institute, Melbourne. She received her Master of Science in Biostatistics from the University of Milan (Italy) in 2009. While she was still a master student, she had her first experience as a part-time Research Assistant in Biostatistics in the Laboratory of General Epidemiology, University of Pavia (Italy) for two years.
After graduation, she worked for two years as a Biostatistician in a Contract Research Organisation where she was then offered the role of Responsible for Statistical Planning. In 2011 Francesca decided it was time for a change of scenery and moved to the other side of the planet, where she was offered a position as Biostatistician in CEBU.
She is mainly involved in clinical trials and she is collaborating with many different research teams both within Murdoch Childrens, The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) and others. In addition to the clinical research, she has been responsible for the organisation of the Getting Started in Clinical Research course since 2013, and regularly teaches Stata I, II and III to the researchers within the institute and the hospital.
Francesca's primary role in the unit is to provide statistical support for clinical trials led by Murdoch Childrens or RCH researchers. She has been involved in designing and planning trials, writing protocols, overseeing data collection and the overall running of trials, and data analysis.
