Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) Professor Sharon Goldfeld has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours.

Professor Goldfeld received the award for significant service to children's health as a paediatrician, academic and public health researcher.

“I’m humbled to be receiving this amazing national recognition of the work toward more equitable outcomes for Australia’s children,” she said.

As an experienced policymaker, public health and paediatric researcher, Professor Goldfeld aims to ensure ongoing effective, rapid translation of research into policy. Her research program focuses on investigating and translating sustainable solutions that eliminate inequities facing children in Australia and as a developmental paediatrician helps children and their families to thrive and live healthy lives.

Professor Goldfeld is Director of MCRI’s Population Health Theme, Co-Group Leader of the Policy and Equity Group and Deputy Scientific Director of Generation Victoria (GenV). She is a paediatrician at The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) and Director of the Centre for Community Child Health.

With over 10 years’ experience in State Government as a senior policymaker in health and education, her roles included Principal Medical Advisor in the Victorian Department of Education and Training.

During the COVID-19 pandemic Professor Goldfeld was instrumental in MCRI’s research into the indirect impact of COVID on children and getting children back to school and getting children back to school. Based on the findings of this research, Professor Goldfeld, along with Professors Kathryn North and Andrew Steer, made 10 recommendations to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Support on how to drive prevention strategies in the future.
