Researcher receives boost to investigate long term impact of family violence
Murdoch Children's Research Institute's (MCRI) Dr Ali Fogarty has been recognised for her research into the long-term mental health effects of family violence on mothers.
Dr Fogarty was among 36 female early and mid-career researchers awarded a grant from the Australian Health Research Alliance's (AHRA) Women's Health Research, Translation and Impact Network (WHRTN) to help with their career advancement and development.
The grants of up to $15,000 aim to address the challenges many women face across Australia such as juggling working from home, home-schooling and caring responsibilities.
The WHRTN is a national collaboration across community, health services and academic institutions focusing on women's health, building health workforce capacity, developing leaders in women's health, and advancing research to deliver impact and better health for Australian women.
Dr Fogarty said the grant would support her professional development in life course biostatistics and documenting the long-term mental health of mothers who have experienced family violence.
"This support will assist in identifying factors that can disrupt patterns of poor mental health for women who have experienced family violence and generate evidence to inform interventions to promote healing and recovery," she said.
