Murdoch Children’s Research Institute was deeply saddened to hear the news of Brian Walsh’s passing last Thursday 16 March.

As a long-serving Foxtel executive, Brian Walsh was a great friend and loyal supporter of Murdoch Children’s.

Alongside his pioneering 28-year career at Foxtel, Brian Walsh was instrumental in leading significant in-kind support for Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, including establishing the Foxtel Lap, a national treadmill challenge raising millions of dollars for Murdoch Children’s research.

The Foxtel Lap ran over several years and raised a greater awareness for the myriad of child health issues that thousands of Australian families face, and which Murdoch Children’s works to solve.

Brian was also influential in the development and promotion of the Step-a-thon for Kids, a walking challenge that raised millions of dollars towards children’s health.

Throughout his professional career, Brian kickstarted the global success of many iconic TV shows such as Neighbours and launched the careers of some of Australia’s biggest stars of stage and screen.

For so many, Brian was regarded as a dear friend, compassionate mentor and one of the most iconic figures in the Australian media and arts industries.

Murdoch Children’s will be forever grateful for Brian’s support and generosity to the Institute and his significant contributions towards children’s health around the world.

Our thoughts are with Brian’s family, friends and the wider Australian media and arts community at this time.

Vale Brian Walsh.
