Dr Michael Poidinger
Dr Mike Poidinger is a research data manager in the data management team at MCRI.
Mike’s role includes marshalling the paediatric cohorts at MCRI for internal and external data access and analytics, overhauling MCRI dresearch data policies and procedures, implementing platforms and systems for biological data analysis, improving instititue wide uptake of standardized procedures and data formats, being involved in the building the big data platform for the GenV project, and engaging with other precinct partners (Royal Children's Hospital, University of Melbourne) in the Melbourne Centre for Child Health Informatics.
Mike gained a PhD in biology and a Postgraduate diploma in computer science, with experience in life science research, pharma discovery IT, application development and data management.
His specialties include high throughput data management and analysis, pharma discovery IT across the pipeline and biological interpretation of data mining results. He has previous experience in academic, government and commercial biomedical research, including working for Eli Lilly and Johnson & Johnson.
Mike's current role in MCRI is operational and does not directly involve research. However previous positions have, including 8 years at the Singapore Immunology Research Network where he ran a team of 8 bioinformaticians and data scientists working on a wide range of projects in immunology. His involment in these projects lead to over 100 publications, and includes expertise in many of the 'omic technologies, as well as immunology.
Mike retains an interest in data management, analytical pipeline development and data visualization.
The Data Team at MCRI is currently working on
1. Implementation of Galaxy as an institute wide platform for high dimensional data analysis
2. Rollout of an Electronic Note book
3. THe construction of standardized templates in RedCap for measurement instruments such as PedsQL
4. Organisation of a data management framework, polcies and SOPs for the institute, including GDPR
