A global stem cell research collaboration that will develop new treatments for cancer, diabetes and heart disease has been launched at the Murdoch Children’s Research Centre (MCRI).
Program area: Resilience & Mental Health. Despite the growing interest in resilience, there are few resilience measures for children. We have developed the first multi-domain, socially inclusive measure of childhood resilience, co-designed with Aboriginal and refugee background communities.

At MCRI we’re leveraging existing networks and projects globally to facilitate COVID-19 research including work on pneumococcal, tuberculosis, rotavirus, adolescent health, and maternal and newborn health.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, MCRI formed a COVID-19 Governance Group that brought together experts in paediatrics, mental health, epidemiology, public health, infectious disease, immunity, child development, vaccine development and communication.
During 2020, enduring school closures resulted in remote learning and social isolation for many Victorian children, leading to numerous challenges for children, their families and teachers as well.
